Meditransport Ambulance Service Ltd have exciting opportunities for Ambulance Care Assistants to join our expanding Healthcare team.

Outline: The Ambulance Person will provide patient transport services, convey non-emergency patients to and from hospital and clinic appointments ensuring the patients welfare in transit and ensuring that safety and best practice are adhered to at all times. The team is dedicated to the delivery of care achieved with the highest standards of patient safety and experience.

Key responsibilities:-

Understand patients special needs and mobility to ensure their safe transport, ensuring the patients dignity and respect is maintained. Operate interchangeably as either driver or attendant in a single person or 2- person ambulance crew and act and promote teamwork to ensure high standards of service delivery. Ensure patients are safely seated whilst in transit. Minimise and deal with aggressive and abusive behaviour to reduce risks to safety and ensure patient welfare. Ensure the use of appropriate equipment and approved manual handling techniques. Maintain the cleanliness and ensure the routine daily checks of designated vehicles are carried out prior to deployment. Assist patients when entering and leaving their homes and take all reasonable actions to ensure the safety and security of their property. Liaise and report to Control as directed within operational procedures in updating location and status and respond appropriately to instructions. Upon arrival at the place of treatment, convey patients to the appropriate location within the building as directed by Control. To be flexible on a daily basis in relation to shift finishing times. Maintain records as appropriate. Comply with all Meditransport Ambulance service Ltd instructions, procedures, guidelines, protocols, policies and relevant systems and adhere to all statutory legislation.

The Ideal Candidate:

Essential Skills:

  • Full driving license required with no more than 3 points
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills and ability to express empathy
  • Duties will involve lifting and moving patients
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience or knowledge of Patient Transport Services
  • C1 on your License but not essential

Emergency Care Assistant (ECA)

Are you caring and compassionate and have a passion for making positive differences to peoples lives? As an Emergency Care Assistant (ECA), you will be a highly visible role model, not only in respect of what you do, but also in the way you conduct yourself with our patients, the public and colleagues. Working in support of front-line clinicians on an ambulance, you will be a key part of our emergency service. We work 24/7, 365 days a year, which means you will need to work flexibly, could be 12 hours at a time, including: nights, weekends and bank holidays, in all weathers. No two shifts will be the same: you might respond to a road accident victim with multiple severe injuries or be required to transfer a very sick baby to a specialist treatment centre. You will literally see life from every angle and deal with people of all ages and from every background. This is a stimulating and challenging role, but it is not for everyone. We need people that are confident, caring, compassionate and hard-working; you will be as passionate as we are about making a positive difference to the people. Applications are welcomed from existing ECAs or equivalent clinical support staff e.g. Emergency Care Support Workers (ECSWs) who have already completed their training with the NHS Ambulance Service or an Ambulance Care Assistant. You must demonstrate in your application how you meet the essential criteria for the post.

As this is a driving role it is essential you have a full driving licence (with no more than 3 penalty points) and full C1 Category on your driving licence would be an advantage but not essential.

You will be required to confirm within your application if you hold a full C1 Category on your licence. During your initial training you will learn moving and handling techniques, first aid, basic patient skills and safe driving techniques. The course requires full attendance and incorporates assessment and written practical examinations.
